For instance, Residential Core Team Members share a year of their lives to create a community that changes lives. Apply to become one to serve the most vulnerable in our community: mothers and babies facing homelessness.

Team members live in the maternity home, providing resources and emotional support to residents, and participating in all aspects of community life. Only women can fill this role, typically recent college graduates interested in doing a year of service or others taking a break from their careers.

Team members receive room, board, and other community benefits. They also earn a monthly living stipend and health insurance stipend. There is no cost to apply and no fundraising requirements. For more information, read about a day in the life of a Residential Core Team Member.

Meet Michella

In My Shoes

Michella became a Residential Core Team Member to make a difference. That includes babysitting, connecting moms to resources, providing emotional support – and spell checking.

“Not long ago, one of the moms was writing a letter and asked me to spell check it for her,” Michella says. “When I began reading, she started crying. She told me, ‘No one has ever loved me like the people here. No one has ever given me a home.’ Team members know we’re having an impact.”

Though the job is demanding – team members get one day and two nights off a week – Michella still has time to go to grad school in Dallas. “In My Shoes is flexible with our schedules,” she says. “And we still have time to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with the moms.”

That includes greeting each baby coming home from the hospital. “The first time I saw a new baby, I thought, Wow, that’s why I do this,” Michella says.
